For awhile there during Survivor 6 The Amazon
~ and not for a short while mind you,
but for a good long while ~ it looked
as though the million-dollar winner's check
already had Deena Bennett's name inscribed
on it.
By all appearances she was holding a winning hand and
seemed to be playing it quite masterfully.
But as any good bridge player knows, one
mislaid card, one trick taken out of
sequence, or one trump card left outstanding
~ and it's goodbye small slam. And so
it was with Deena, whose premature bid to
betray early alliances led straight to her
stunning ouster on day 27.
And yet at the
same time we were surprised that she lasted
as long as she did. Why? Because
Deena is a lawyer ~ a noble District
Attorney true enough, but a lawyer all the
same ~ and it's hardly a secret what we
think of them. As in, 'What do
you call one lawyer floating face-down in the
Amazon River?' Answer: 'A good
start!'
